Statement from Wesport & the Active Partnerships Network
news

Wesport and the Active Partnerships Network have been appalled by and condemns the disorder, violence, and racially motivated riots we've seen across the country in recent days.

The 43 Active Partnerships are based across the whole of England and are proud to work with people from all communities who come together to take part in sport, physical activity, and movement.  We are appalled that these activities, our local communities, and partners have been impacted.

While this has been a challenging few days, we have also seen the glimmers of light and hope too.  We have heard the people that have spoken up in support of their friends, neighbours and colleagues, we have seen the acts of kindness within communities, and we have huge respect for the tireless work that our public services have been doing to keep everyone safe under such difficult circumstances.  We must continue to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, feels able to safely take part in the activity of their choice.

As a network we truly believe in the power of sport and physical activity to bring people together and we will continue to focus on this in the coming weeks and months. We'll also continue to champion community cohesion and inclusion, shining a light on the amazing people from all backgrounds that we are proud to work with and support.

Wesport reaffirms its commitment to work with our colleagues across the Active Partnership Network and local communities across the West of England that we are working with to tackle racism.

We support our staff team and network colleagues affected by the recent unrest across the country.
