The Wesport Team is very saddened to learn of Professor Sir Eric Thomas passing away.
Sir Eric was the first Chair of Trustees for Wesport back at the very beginning in 2006, and was instrumental in helping us get established in the West of England.
As a small charity, the support & advice we received was invaluable.
In his time as the Chair of our Board, he helped to get fundamental structures in place, and advised on systems & processes to help us to fulfil our charitable objectives, as well as supporting the development of our organisational culture. He provided great support to the other Board members and to the Senior Leadership at Wesport, & undoubtedly contributed to the success that Wesport has achieved over the years. Not a small feat, given the complexity of working across the West of England as an area.
We are forever indebted to Sir Eric’s generosity of his time, knowledge, and advice in his role as our Chair, and subsequently as a Patron of Wesport.
Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.
Steve Nelson, Wesport’s CEO added: “He taught me so much about being a leader and running a charity. He allowed me to evolve in my role. He was an ideal mentor and supporter. I will always be grateful for the time he gave me. Sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”
