Wesport are working in partnership with local hate crime charity SARI. As part of this work, we wanted to deliver some learning and development networking opportunities for the network we support to engage in meaningful conversations and action around race and race equality.
Our partnership was launched at the return of our first face to face Sport & Physical Activity Network (SPAN) event last year. The Director of SARI, Alex Raikes then delivered three workshops which were free to network partners to attend over the last few months.
We have seen 16 organisations join the sessions covering the following topics:
- Part 1 Privilege and bias, moving from non – anti, the world we are living in and context
- Part 2 Key definitions and scenarios, bias and group think
- Part 3 Terminology, reflection for self and organisations and where next
The sessions have seen a broad range of partners attend, from National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBS), Community Associations, Youth Partners, and Local Charities. We have been captivated by the conversations that have been taking place and encouraged by the positive feedback from partners who shared how the sessions have helped shape future work in their organisations.
We are keen to understand how partners utilise this training going forward. Our partnership with SARI continues as we explore some work around hate crime reporting in sport locally.
