LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Sport: Creating Clubs Where Everyone Belongs

Sport has the power to bring people together, build confidence, and create a sense of community. Yet many LGBTQ+ people continue to experience barriers to participation, belonging, and progression within sport and physical activity.

To help clubs, organisations, coaches, volunteers, and welfare officers create more welcoming environments, we are pleased to be partnering with SARI (Stand Against Racism & Inequality) to deliver an engaging and interactive webinar on LGBTQ+ Inclusion in Sport.

Why Attend?

Creating an inclusive club environment benefits everyone. When people feel safe, respected, and valued, they are more likely to participate, stay involved, and enjoy the positive physical, mental, and social benefits that sport can provide.

This session will explore the experiences of LGBTQ+ people in sport, looking at both historical and current challenges that can impact participation. Attendees will gain a greater understanding of the barriers that some LGBTQ+ individuals face and learn practical ways to create a culture where everyone feels they belong.

What Will the Session Cover?

Delivered by the SARI team, the webinar will include:

  • An introduction to LGBTQ+ identities and terminology
  • The history and experiences of LGBTQ+ people in sport
  • Common barriers to participation and inclusion
  • Practical steps clubs can take to create more inclusive environments
  • Inclusive communication and language
  • Building confidence in supporting LGBTQ+ participants, volunteers, coaches, and officials
  • Opportunities for discussion, reflection, and shared learning

The session is designed to be practical, supportive, and engaging, providing attendees with ideas and actions that can be implemented within their own clubs and organisations.

Interactive Learning and Q&A

The webinar will be a 90-minute interactive session that encourages participation, discussion, and reflection. There will also be dedicated time for attendees to ask questions and gain advice from SARI.

Whether you are just beginning your inclusion journey or looking to strengthen the work already taking place within your club, this session will offer valuable insights and practical tools to help drive positive change.

This webinar is ideal for:
