Sport Welfare

Sport Welfare support title 1

Sport Welfare is all about the proactive steps that clubs can put in place to make sure all members are safe and happy. The Sport Welfare Officer Network (SWO network) has been created to support National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and their local clubs to promote good practice and safer sport for all. The network is funded by Sport England through National Lottery funding.

We’re here to support clubs and volunteers in making proactive changes that will make their environments safer, happier and accessible to all. This can be done by providing access to training, talks, and resources, as well as working 1-2-1 with your club at a time and place that suits you

In the last year:

  • We’ve supported local sports clubs on 450 occasions.
  • We’ve hosted 10 sport welfare events with 216 attendees.
  • We’ve worked with 36 National Governing Bodies or local county associations.

We’ve listened to clubs and have created a free "Sport Welfare Club Hub", which is full of resources and courses that will help you to make your club safe. Sign up to get access below.

You can see some of the topics we can support your club with in the image below.

We can’t support clubs with safeguarding investigations. If you disclose anything like this to us, we will support you to make the correct reports to your National Governing Body, and (where appropriate) your LADO, statutory services, and other organisations that could support you.

We also host a wide range of CPD talks and training that are open to all sports clubs.

Talking Sport Welfare Series

  • This series includes in-depth talks, training courses, and more.

Sport Welfare Made Simple Series

  • Quick, 45-minute “lunch and learns” to help your club get the basics right.

The breadth of support we offer is extensive, so if you have an idea that will make your club safer, happier, and accessible to all, or if you have a topic for a future CPD event that’s not mentioned below, please let us know using the form below.
