Wesport stand with the Football community and will be participating in a social media boycott from 3pm Friday 30th April- midnight on Monday 3rd May.
Many professional athletes suffer abuse and discrimination on a daily basis through social media. A large part of our work is to ensure sport and physical activity is accessible and a safe space for everyone. No one should suffer abuse and harassment for participating in the sport they love.
We believe that social media companies can and should do more to protect everyone involved in sport. There needs to be a greater effort to stem the relentless flow of discriminatory messages and ensure that there are real-life consequences for purveyors of online abuse across all platforms.
Wesport CEO Steve Nelson said:
"There is no place on social media, or anywhere else for discriminatory abuse & hate to happen. Wesport stands with the football community in highlighting this and working together to make it a thing of the past."
